Over the past two decades, Sujata’s career has spanned in different areas of public health practice, from working on maternal-child health initiatives with UNICEF in India to early childhood policy development in child welfare, health equity research and administration within Massachusetts state government in Boston, USA. Her core work and leadership has always been towards advancing human rights and social justice efforts using the lens of equity. Apart from global public health, social policy and human rights, Sujata also has a lifelong, deep passion for the fine arts - in particular, photography; cinema; music; indigenous and tribal art, handloom and handicrafts from India as well as around the world; environment-friendly design and interior architecture. It is this interest that brought her to explore a (second!) career in interior design, primarily focusing on sustainable, affordable, versatile and accessible design for everyday living.
Born in Toronto, Canada to immigrant, Indian-American parents, Sujata identifies being trilingual and bi-cultural. She earned a Master of Science degree in Social Work Policy and Administration with a minor in Law at Columbia University. Sujata also holds a Master of Science degree in Human Rights and a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography (Cartography, GIS, and Urban Planning) with minors in Economics and Political Science.
In her spare time, Sujata enjoys traveling, experimenting with global cuisine, yoga, camping in the mountains, going on long walks, advocating for a better planet (particularly for non-toxic and pollution-free soil, air, rivers and oceans globally!) watching international documentaries and independent films.
